Welcome to the website of the Louisiana Junior Classical League! Louisiana JCL is the state chapter of the National Junior Classical League, an organization of middle school and high school students sponsored by the American Classical League. It is composed of local and state chapters and is the largest Classical organization in the world today. Its purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity.
The annual state convention will be held in Baton Rouge from March 11-12, where state chapters participate in academic, graphic arts, and creative arts contests, in addition to Olympika and a Roman banquet. The 2011 National Junior Classical League Convention will be held in Richmond, Kentucky at Eastern Kentucky University in July 2011.
